OUGD504 - SB2 - Design for Screen - Plan Of Action

After presenting the two initial ideas to a crit it became very clear as to which pathway I should go down in response to the problems identified. To confirm the final plan of action, a final brief has been made, which I can refer back to throughout the development stages. It is as follows:

Brief - Develop Amazon's mobile and desktop sites to create a more consistent, simple user interface. Alongside this, re-market Amazon Prime, by improving the user experience and creating a promotional advert that highlights all of Prime's features.

Identified Problems:

◦ Many people just see Amazon Prime as a one-day delivery service. Other aspects, such as Amazon Video, Music and Drive need to be clearly promoted and explained as being part of the Prime service.

◦ Amazon Prime's interface is confusing and overly complicated (found from personal use and crit feedback). All of Prime's features should be brought together, with a clear consistent aesthetic across all platforms. All platforms should be built into the site too, rather than being individual apps (especially on mobile devices).

Whilst you can set parental controls in Prime to prevent children from watching certain shows, the experience for all users is the same; a children's TV show could be next to an 18-rated film on Amazon Video for example. In this sense, the introduction of users, similar to in Netflix, should be considered, to make the user experience more fluid and specific to the user.

Deliverables:

◦ A short advert that clearly promotes the features and price of Amazon Prime. This should work on mobile and desktop devices and should be implemented on the Amazon site and social media pages.

◦ A consistent website that responds to the problems identified. The deliverable of this should be a walkthrough video of how the site works on a multitude of devices.

The feedback for the wireframes presented in the crit was overall very positive, as people thought that the simplicity of the design works better for Amazon. In this sense, it makes sense to develop these wireframes into digital site designs, as this will provide an aesthetic to work from for the advert and overall site aesthetic.
