Students & Money - I like to think that I am very money conscious when it comes to living at university; however, I have observed that quite a few friends struggle to handle their money effectively. The main problem is where students spend money on nights out that they shouldn't. As a resolution to this problem, a new app/platform could be created that physically limits people's spending. This would be particularly aimed at students, also offering advice and tips on how to be savvy. Research would be made into what causes students to spend their money, and also ways of preventing this.
Amazon - Whilst Amazon is a hugely useful, broad marketplace, it does have some disadvantages. One aspect to the experience is Amazon Prime. A year ago, I signed up to the 2-day trial to receive an item with quicker delivery. At the end of the 2 days however, I was charged £90+. Whilst this was in the small print, Amazon did a very good job of keeping users unaware of the automatic payment. After speaking to many other Amazon users, it became clear that I was not the only one who thought Amazon Prime was a poorly marketed feature.
In terms of the marketplace itself, it is very clustered and overly focuses on advertising, as opposed to the user experience. Research would be made into both the marketplace and Prime; however, these are problems that could be resolved.
Out of all the problems highlighted, I want to choose the most challenging one as I really want to push and develop my UX skills in this project. Out of those considered, the biggest task to take on is the Amazon problem, as it is already extremely successful with over 244 million users. Quite a few people in the class are doing a student money app, which highlights that it is considered as a problem for students. However, I want to stay away from what other people are doing to ensure that I can produce an outcome that is more unique. In this sense, some further research into Amazon will be made.
