OUGD505 - Studio Brief 01 - Leeds Public Spaces - Outcomes & Evaluation

As this was the first analogue print I have produced this year, it took a while to remember the screen printing process; however, overall, I am extremely happy with how the posters have come out. Despite the mistakes made in the production stage I was able to produce a high-quality print after spending a lot of time in the traditional print room. Before this brief, I was always nervous to screen print - mainly because I have only done it once or twice before. After producing these posters I feel much more confident and knowledgable, and am definitely going to try and produce more physical work in Level 06.

In terms of the effectiveness of the poster, I feel that it is much more a celebration of the Carnival and the people that take part in it as a whole than the 50th Anniversary. Whilst it is important to promote the 50th Anniversary, it is also important to remember the history of the Carnival, and why it was established. Referencing the founder, Arthur France, alongside the powerful phrase 'By the people, for the people' achieves this, and aims to emphasise the fact that the Carnival is for all people to enjoy. The use of positive, happy imagery and bright colours aims to promote the energy seen at the Carnival and highlight that it as a fun, welcoming event. Therefore, this poster does effectively celebrate an event in Leeds.

If I had more time to spend on this project I would have liked to possibly create a set of posters, inspired by other quotes found and other historically relevant people to the Carnival. As the 50th Carnival will take place later this year, I am going to try and get in touch with the organisers to see if they would be interested in using the design/posters made. Even if they choose not to do so I am sure that they will appreciate the effort gone into producing the outcomes, which may potentially lead to future work or contacts.
