As all the posters on Poster Jam are digital, I have digitally developed the 3 main ideas in various Adobe programs to try and stand a higher chance of being selected.
I have produced the first in After Effects using the CC Cylinder effect. Type was able to be three-dimensional, making it possible to revolve it around a sphere (representing The Sun). A vivid yellow colour has been chosen, informed by the research made into energy colour associations. The type is not legible when placed over a yellow sphere; therefore, it has been used as the background colour, with black and white providing the highest contrast possible for the type and Sun.
Initially, I experimented in Cinema 4D to try and create a similar effect; however, it proved much more difficult as I am less knowledgable in it. By experimenting with a sphere and lighting I am however able to make another poster outcome. It is extremely bright and colourful, and has light streaks across the top half, which links to the form of light energy. I have shown the piece to a variety of peers and their feedback is that it is visually very energetic.
The second idea has been produced in Photoshop. Inspired by neon typography a typeface was found online which has a similar visual style. A lighting bolt icon was also created, using a royalty free neon signage image as inspiration. By using the same yellow as in the 1st idea, the word 'Energy' was formed by customizing the Linoleo Script typeface. Glow effects were added to try and replicate the bright energy that neon gives out. In regards to the lightning bolt, another colour was used as white did not provide the vibrancy I desired. Electric blue is a colour suggested by a variety of peers when I asked them which colour makes them thing of the word. For this reason, electric blue has been used.
For the third idea, two posters have been produced in Illustrator. They were inspired by elongated and repeated typography and revolve around the energy abbreviation 'NRG'. The elongated poster uses yellow in reference to the colour association of energy whilst the repeated poster incorporates an electrical pulse, referencing electrical energy. Both have been kept as simple as possible to keep a focus on the typography.
