This brief has been inspired by a personal family member. My gran lives by herself in a small town in Glasgow. Due to the majority of my family living in England, she is often alone a lot of the time. Whenever I have spoken to her on the phone or in person she mainly talks about friends or locals she has recently seen, even if the interaction is a simple chat or going to the shops.
Many times she has mentioned how she feels lonely with nobody to interact with. Because of this, I have been inspired to try and tackle the problem of elderly loneliness for a research project. Sadly, she now has severe dementia, which makes it very difficult to interact with her. Therefore, as I can't receive feedback from her, I have to carefully consider the target audience in this project.
The brief that I have set myself is as follows:
'Produce an outcome that aims to combat elderly loneliness in the UK. The aim should be to improve interaction with others and make people more involved with their community. Research should inform all design decisions, considering the audience very carefully. Deliverables are entirely dependant on the research made.'
In terms of a time plan for this brief I have given myself two weeks, focusing a large majority of the time on research. This will be used to ensure that the project will be completed on time, as I need the last remaining week before hand-in to complete my final project in this module.
